Indian golfer Saptaak Talwar made a remarkable start at the , scoring four-under 66 in the first round of the men’s individual event.
This impressive performance placed him in a tie for third. Fellow Indian players Veer Ahlawat and Yuvraj Sandhu finished with one-over 71, securing a joint 23rd position.
Leading the individual event after the first round are Wei-Hsuan Wang from Chinese Taipei and Japan’s Kazuki Higa, both of whom carded five-under 65.
In the men’s team event, the Indian team collectively scored three-under 137, landing them in a tie for fifth place. The team score is determined by the top two players’ scores. Japan leads the team competition with a score of nine-under 131.
Talwar, currently at the top of the PGTI Order of Merit, recorded five birdies and one bogey in his opening round. Former PGTI Order of Merit champion Veer Ahlawat achieved one eagle, three birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey. 2025 PGTI Order of Merit winner Yuvraj Sandhu had four birdies and five bogeys in his first round.
A total of 66 players are competing in the men’s golf event, which runs from September 30 to October 3, covering 72 holes. Team medals will be awarded based on the cumulative scores of each country’s best two players in every round.
The Indian trio entered the competition with considerable experience and strong recent form. Just before the , Talwar and Ahlawat finished tied for third at the Bengaluru Open 2026, while Sandhu recently secured a joint 13th place at the DP World Tour’s FedEx Open de France.
In the women’s individual event, Pranavi Urs finished in second place with a score of four-under 66, trailing the leader by three shots. Diksha Dagar and Aditi Ashok tied for 18th with one-over 71. The Indian women’s team also placed sixth with a score of three-under 137, five shots behind the leaders.
