Santan Saptami Vrat Katha: Both men and women do equally with the bright future of children, good health and prosperity of children. In the year 2025, the child Saptami fast will be kept on 30 August, Saturday.
In ancient times, this fast was mainly performed for descent growth and child. The importance of child Saptami fast is associated with the mythological period. It is believed that by observing this fast, children get happiness and if they already have children, their protection and longevity are ensured. This fast is also mentioned in the story of Mahabharata period. At one time Maharaj Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna a solution for child happiness. Then Shri Krishna narrated a legend to him.
Story of Lomsh Rishi
Once in the city of Mathura, Lomsh came to the house of Rishi, Vasudev and Devaki. Devaki was very sad at that time because Kansa killed many of her sons. The sage consoled him and told the importance of the child Saptami fast and said that it gives children happiness and protection.
He gave the example of Chandramukhi, the wife of King Nahusha. Rani was saddened by not having a child. But when he fasted the child Saptami with full rules and reverence, he received children.
Story of importance and rebirth of fasting
The sage explained to Devaki that both Rani Chandramukhi and her friend Bhadra Brahmini, both saw women fasting while bathing in the Saryu river. Both took a pledge, but Rani Chandramukhi did not do it with full devotion, while the Brahmin performed this fast throughout his life.
As a result, both of them got different fruits even in the next births. The Brahmins worshiped Lord Shiva-Parvati in every birth and followed the child Saptami, which gave him the best son and happiness and prosperity. At the same time, Rani Chandramukhi continued to suffer childlessness and sorrow due to not following the rules.
Blessing of child saptami fast
According to the legend, Bhadra Brahmani received eight virtual and pharmacological sons in the next life with the influence of his revered fast. On the other hand, Chandramukhi had a son, but he was young and unwell. Finally, he observed the fast of child Saptami with full devotion, which removed his sorrow and got the blessings of happiness and prosperity.
Pledge and method of fasting
This story inspired Devaki and he also resolved to fast on the child Saptami. The sage told him that bathing on the day of Bhadrapada Shukla Saptami, installation of idol of Shiva-Parvati, worshiping with incense-lamp, akshat, flower and naivedya and tying Ganda (thread) brings child happiness and security.
The influence of the child Saptami fast is considered so amazing that it not only gives the boon of children, but also increases age, health and good fortune in their lives when already having children. This fast is considered a symbol of bright future of children and family happiness and prosperity.
