Sanju Samson Out? No Shreyas Iyer Again! India’s Probable Squad For T20I Series Against Australia

After their success in the Asia Cup 2025, India will make their on-field return in the two-match Test series against West Indies, starting October 2. The players who are only part of the T20I team, including captain Suryakumar Yadav, have a nearly one-month break.

India are scheduled to play their next T20I against Australia on October 29. The India tour of Australia includes 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The selectors are likely to name both squads soon. Here, we have a look at India’s predicted T20I team for the Australia tour –

Openers

Abhishek Sharma will continue to open the innings with Shubman Gill. Abhishek top-scored in the Asia Cup and piled up 317 runs in 7 matches. The only batsman to breach the 300-run mark in the tournament, Abhishek was bestowed with the Player of the Tournament award. Shubman had a mixed tournament, but he is the vice-captain of the team and there are no doubts over his spot. The right-handed batsman scored 127 runs in 7 innings.

Middle-order

Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the team, which is set to have the likes of Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh in the middle order. Tilak shone in the final and propelled India to their ninth Asia Cup win. Rinku hit the winning runs on the only delivery he faced in the tournament.

Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma will also be part of the middle-order. Samson is likely to keep his spot despite a mixed run in the Asia Cup. Jitesh though could get a game in Australia.

Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to make the cut as India have a well-settled middle-order. The India A captain is all but confirmed to be part of the ODI team.

All-rounders

Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube will continue to be two pace-bowling all-rounders in Team India while Axar Patel will be the sole spin-bowling all-rounder.

Bowlers

Since there is a T20 World Cup earlier in 2026, Jasprit Bumrah isn’t expected to skip the T20I leg of the Australia tour. He looks set to lead the pace attack, which should include Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. All in all, the selectors aren’t expected to make even one change in India’s squad for the Australia tour.

India’s likely squad for T20I series against Australia: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma
