Sanju Samson ICC T20I Rankings: The performance of Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson in the ongoing T20 series against New Zealand remains a matter of concern. Team India is busy preparing for the T20 World Cup 2026, but Samson’s continuous poor form has raised questions. This is Team India’s last series before this big tournament and now only 2 matches are left. In such a situation, the pressure on Sanju Samson to return to form has also increased. Meanwhile, he has also suffered a big setback in the ICC T20 rankings.
Sanju Samson struggling with bad form
Three T20 matches have been played so far in this five-match series, and Samson has been able to score only 16 runs in total in these three matches. In the first match in Nagpur, he scored 10 runs in 7 balls, but was out early. In the second match in Raipur his score was only 6 runs. In the third match in Guwahati, the situation was even worse, Samson returned to the pavilion after scoring a golden duck on the very first ball. New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry bowled him brilliantly on the off stump, which once again exposed his technical weaknesses.
Sanju Samson’s huge loss in ranking
This poor form has also affected the ranking of ICC T20 batsmen. Earlier, Samson was at 42nd position, now he has slipped to 51st position, i.e. there has been a loss of 9 places. This fall is worrying for him and the team management, because the T20 World Cup 2026 is going to start in February and questions are being raised about his place in the opening slot. However, the team’s coaching staff has supported Samson. But after three consecutive failures the pressure is increasing. Backup batsman like Ishan Kishan has shown tremendous form in this series, due to which the possibility of change in selection has also become stronger.
Samson not only failed to score runs but also did not spend much time at the crease. In this series, where batsmen like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and captain Suryakumar Yadav played explosive innings, Samson’s performance is proving to be a big blow for the team. Samson still has 2 remaining matches of the series, where he can return to form and cement his place.
