Suryakumar Yadav-led India punched their ticket to the semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup with a thrilling win over West Indies in their last Super 8 game on Sunday (March 1).
Courtesy of ,unbeaten 97 off 50 balls, the Men in Blue scaled the chase on the second ball of the 20th over. The wicketkeeper-batsman was bestowed with the Player of the Match award for his heroics. Sanjiv Goenka was all praise for Team India after their win and shared a special post on X. Goenka, who owns Lucknow Super Giants IPL franchise, namedropped in his post.
“Do-or-die moments reveal true mettle. Last evening, it was Sanju’s willow that spoke, calm and commanding. The semis await TeamIndia. Jai Ho!” Goenka wrote on X.
What happened in the virtual quarter-final?
Opting to bowl first, India restricted WI to a total of 195. Shai Hope took 33 balls to score 32 while Roston Chase hit 40 off 25 balls. None of the WI batters could play a big knock. Courtesy of Rovman Powell’s 19-ball 34 and Jason Holder’s 22-ball 37, WI reached close to the 200-run mark.

India lost the crucial wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the powerplay. Despite losing early wickets, Samson kept the Men in Blue in the hunt.
India to face England in semi-final
India will face England in the second semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup on Thursday (March 5). The fixture will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. New Zealand will take on South Africa in the first semi-final on Wednesday (March 4) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The final is scheduled to be played on March 8 in Ahmedabad.
