Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has drawn a parallel between the case of Ketan Agarwal and the media trial faced by actress Rhea Chakraborty, igniting a significant debate on .
Following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Rhea Chakraborty was relentlessly targeted by both traditional and social media. Gupta’s comments have elicited varied reactions from the public.
On the social media platform X, Gupta stated, “I am not taking sides or passing judgment. I just want to say, please do not treat Sia the way we treated Rhea. We all witnessed that spectacle. The media trial aired on TV reached a verdict before the evidence was presented. It seems we never learn.”
Many users expressed their discontent with Gupta’s post, questioning the validity of such comparisons.
One user remarked, “Sometimes you choose the most absurd aspect of a debate. Stop trying so hard, sir. Who are you trying to impress?”
Another user questioned Gupta’s perspective, stating, “What has happened to you? Is something wrong? She is a murderer. There is substantial evidence against her. She ruined not just one boy’s life but his entire family’s. If she was unhappy, she could have left; there was no need to take an innocent life.”
A third user added, “Okay, but how can the two cases be compared? If no new information has emerged, wasn’t Sia present at the scene where she allegedly pushed him into the ravine?”
In 2020, Rhea Chakraborty was in the spotlight for an extended period following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. She faced numerous allegations and was subjected to continuous criticism on social media and television channels. Later, she was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with an alleged drug case, leading to a nationwide debate about media trials.
In the Ketan Agarwal case, initial reports suggested that he died during a trek at Lohagarh Fort on June 18. However, as the investigation progressed, police began to suspect foul play. Investigative agencies believe that Ketan’s fiancée, Sia Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, may be involved in this purported conspiracy. The investigation is currently ongoing.
