Sanjay Dutt’s popular luxury nightclub in Pune, Ballr, has recently been in the news after the Bombay High Court directed the owners of the club not to play songs without authorisation. The Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) India, the country’s oldest copyright licensing organisation, took action against Dutt and Heramb Shelke over the unauthorised use of copyrighted music. Hours after the report went viral on social media, Sanjay Dutt issued his first statement on the matter and denied his association with the nightclub. Sanjay’s statement left everyone in shock as he had started the nightclub in Pune in 2023.
Sanjay Dutt On Bombay HC’s Order Against Pune Nightclub
took to his Instagram handle and shared a short statement on his stories. In the note, the actor wrote, “With recent reports concerning Ballr, Pune, I would like to clarify that I am not associated with the club in any capacity.” (sic)
For the unversed, issued an order against Ballr owners on August 7, 2026, and gave interim relief to the PPL by restraining the nightclub from publicly performing or using PPL’s song recordings without obtaining the requisite license.

Why Did PPL File Case Against Ballr Owners?
According to the mid-day report, a PPL representative had visited Ballr on June 24. They found out that charbusters like Badtameez Dil, Dard-E-Disco, O Saki Saki, Justi Bieber’s What Do You Mean, Dua Lipa’s Levitating and others were being played at the venue. The licensing organisation has copyrights on the mentioned songs.
During the hearing, the court mentioned that Ballr had previously obtained the license but it had expired. They didn’t renew it on it. Hence, the court restricted them from using the PPL’s repertoire without a non-exclusive public performance license.
Hiten Wasan, a advocate, said, “The ad interim injunction granted by the Bombay High Court sends a clear message that continued unauthorised use of copyrighted music can have serious legal consequences.” After Sanjay Dutt’s statement, it is clear that the actor is not at all associated with the nightclub.
