Comedian Samay Raina and content creator Apoorva Mukhija, aka ‘The Rebel Kid’, have come together again for a quirky skincare ad and fans are loving every second of it. The two, who made headlines earlier this year for their appearance on the controversial show India’s Got Latent, reunited in a spoof-style podcast setup for Deconstruct, a skincare brand. The ad, filled with cheeky humour and sharp jabs, opens with Samay welcoming Apoorva with a straight-faced, “Welcome to the podcast.” Then, as expected, the jokes start flying.
In the advertisement Samay Raina quips, “Yaar humare last meeting ke baad mujhe toh STD hi ho gaya tha.” Apoorva quickly replied, “PTSD hota hai woh,” to which he cheekily said, “Nahi nahi, mujhe STD hi hua tha – Sun Transmitted Disease.” Samay then added, “Woh jana pad gaya tha na Assam, Gujarat, Delhi skin damage ho gayi thi.” This appeared to be a nod to the police complaints and court appearances he’s been involved in since the India’s Got Latent controversy. The ad smoothly transitions into skincare promotion while maintaining its humorous tone. Apoorva, stayed in character, interrupted Samay, “I came here for a podcast,” only for him to carry on with the product plug. It’s a clever balance of humour and branding, sprinkled with digs at influencers like Ranveer Allahbadia and Raj Shamani.
What Was India’s Got Latent Controversy?
To recap, India’s Got Latent drew serious backlash earlier this year when Ranveer Allahbadia posed a highly inappropriate question to a contestant during a podcast-style show. Alongside him were Samay, Apoorva, Ashish Chanchlani, and Jaspreet Singh, all of whom were later targeted in FIRs and public criticism for promoting obscenity.
