Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi postponed after Prashant Tamang’s untimely death

New Delhi: Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi has hit a major roadblock. The release, earlier set for early April, is now delayed due to the sad death of actor-singer Prashant Tamang.

He played a key antagonist role but left some important scenes unfinished. Makers are in a tough spot, planning big changes to the script and shoots. Fans will have to wait longer for this action-packed movie.

Delay after tragic loss

Prashant Tamang, famous for winning Indian Idol 3, passed away in January 2026. He had shot parts of his big role as the main villain in Maatrubhumi, earlier called Battle of Galwan. But several key scenes remained pending, forcing the team to pause everything. The film tells a story linked to the 2020 Galwan clash, with the tagline “May War Rest In Peace.” Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, it stars Salman Khan and Chitrangda Singh.

 Production challenges

The team faces big problems because Prashant was part of heavy action sequences and close-ups. A source told India Today, “The team had a couple of planned schedules where Prashant had to shoot some really key scenes. With him gone, the team is absolutely in crisis.” The source added, “Close-ups could still be managed, but he was also part of extensive action sequences. It would not only be financially unviable but also a logistical nightmare.” Salman’s busy schedule adds more delays in reshooting.

Possible solutions

Makers are looking at options like recasting the role or using AI and VFX to finish his parts. This would need approval from Prashant’s family. No new release date is out yet, but whispers point to Independence Day 2026, fitting the film’s patriotic theme. The project must wrap shoots and post-production soon. This setback tests the team’s creativity amid grief.
