Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Eyeing Post-Diwali Release, CBFC Screening Awaited – Report

Salman Khan’s much-awaited war drama Maatrubhumi: May Way Rest In Peace has reportedly been cleared by the government for theatrical release. However, the film is yet to secure a screening with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which is preventing the makers from announcing the release date. A fresh report suggests that Salman is keen to bring Maatrubhumi to theatres post-Diwali, but the final plan depends on the CBFC screening and certification.

Maatrubhumi Eyes November 13 Release

Originally slated to release in April with a different title, Maatrubhumi underwent multiple changes after objections were raised over its anti-China stance. After finally receiving a go-ahead from the government, the makers applied for a CBFC screening at the start of October. As per a Bollywood Hungama report, the censor board assured the makers that it would watch the film on October 26. But that couldn’t be the case.

Salman Khan is said to have flown to New Delhi several times to request the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take things forward. The report added that Salman wants to release the film in November itself and thus requires the CBFC to watch the film at the earliest.

Why Is Salman Khan Keen On A Post-Diwali Release?

Since the November 13 slot has not been booked by any other film, Salman Khan is eyeing it for  . According to the report, the superstar does not want his film to impact Sooraj Barjatya’s Yeh Prem Mol Liya, since he considers the filmmaker his family. The Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari starrer is slated to arrive on November 27, which means there will be a healthy gap of two weeks with Maatrubhumi, if it indeed arrives on November 13.

Salman ruled out the November 20 slot since it was closer to Yeh Prem Mol Liya release date. December 4 was also in contention, but things did not work out since Jio Studios is distributing Maatrubhumi as well as Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha, which is releasing on the same date. The rest of December is occupied by major Indian and international releases. The highly-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday and Dune are arriving on December 18, whereas Shah Rukh Khan’s King will hit theatres on December 24.

Therefore, at the moment, November 13 seems like the most suitable date for Maatrubhumi, despite the risk of being affected by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi’s Ramayana. But the final decision will be taken after the CBFC screening.
