Not Shah Rukh Khan, but Salman Khan was first offered lead role in Chak De! India. However, he chose to turn the project down as he was worried that the film’s serious tone might won’t appeal his fans, as he was doing more comedy films at the time. The role eventually went on to SRK, and won audiences hearts with his nuanced performance.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)
DDLJ, one of Bollywood’s most admired love stories, was initially offered to Salman Khan. However, the actor declined the portrayal of Raj Malhotra, and it went on to Shah Rukh Khan, which solidified his legacy as India’s ultimate romantic hero.
