Salman Khan Advocates for ‘Ramayana’ to Be Judged on Story, Not VFX or Budget

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has emphasized that discussions around Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘Ramayana’ should focus on its characters and narrative, rather than its reported budget and visual effects.

Speaking at the trailer launch of his own film, ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace,’ Khan stated, “I just think Ramayana ka charcha Ramayana pe hona chahiye na ki VFX and cost of production par.” He highlighted the importance of discussing the epic’s core elements: Ram, Ravana, and Sita.

Khan drew parallels between Lord Ram’s virtues – being a good son, husband, father, and warrior – and the protagonist of his film ‘Maatrubhumi,’ which he said embodies similar qualities. He also fondly recalled watching Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan.’

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is set to feature Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, with a planned worldwide release in November 2026. Other notable actors include Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Anupam Kher voicing Jatayu. Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, and Rakul Preet Singh also play key roles.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace,’ produced by Salma Khan and directed by Apoorva Lakhia, also starring Chitrangada Singh, is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. The film, initially titled ‘Battle of Galwan,’ faced production delays due to an actor’s injury and is now slated for a December 4 release, after multiple postponements from its original April release.
