In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Alam opened up about the success of Saiyaara, his approach to acting, and what it was like working with Mohit Suri.

Crediting Mohit Suri for guiding him through the performance, Alam said, “I am very, very grateful to all the cast and crew, my parents, and all my friends who have always supported me. I think I’ve received so much love… I worked hard, the character was good, and I performed well.”

When asked if he fears getting typecast, Alam replied confidently, “Not at all. Honestly, I’ll tell you, I haven’t been in that zone to be typecast… because the three characters I’ve played have had very different shades. Uday from Kota Factory is totally different from KV in Saiyaara. And Uday from Lakho Mein Ek on Amazon [Prime Video] is completely different from both.”

Alam has also appeared in Chaman Bahaar on Netflix, where he played a young politician. “I had a mustache and everything! If you look at my roles, I’ve done variations. Luckily, I haven’t been typecast yet. Every character I play has its own depth.”

Speaking of his creative process, he said, “I’ve played different types of characters… Now let’s see what comes next. I don’t really have a choice, so I go with what I get.”

Alam also praised his director, saying, “Working with Mohit Suri is like a treat. He gives so much freedom to his actors. He allows multiple takes in a short time and is always open to suggestions. Sometimes I even forget that I’m working with the Mohit Suri – it feels like a friend is guiding me.”

After the release of Saiyaara, Alam revealed that he’s still in touch with Ahaan. “We’re speaking every day. We’re so grateful that itna achchha response aaya hai ki bhai debutants ke film Rs 100 crore par kar chuka hai, kya horh samajh nahi aarh hai. Rs 40 crore ke budget film itna double triple ja chuki hai toh bohot hi achchha lag raha hain. Producer khush hai, sab bohot khush hai. (We talk every day. We’re just so grateful that the film has received such a great response. A debutant’s film crossing 100 crores, it’s unbelievable! The film, made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, has tripled its returns. It feels amazing. The producers are happy, and so are we.)”
