Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD sequel is generating fresh excitement as director Nag Ashwin prepares to take the ambitious science-fiction saga into its next phase. The first film blended Indian mythology with futuristic storytelling, earned strong box-office success and won National Film Awards, raising expectations for the upcoming sequel.
According to recent reports, regular shooting for Kalki 2 is scheduled to begin in mid-October 2026, with the team hoping to finish filming by mid 2027. A 2028 theatrical release is being discussed, although the makers have not announced an official release date.
Reports suggest that Sai Pallavi has already started shooting. Earlier reports suggested that the makers were considering Sai for Sumathi earlier played by Deepika Padukone, the character central to the story of Kalki’s birth. However, casting speculation should not be mistaken for official confirmation. We have to wait to know whether Sai Pallavi replaced Deepika or is she doing entirely new character.
The sequel is expected to continue the story featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, with the filmmakers aiming to expand the franchise’s futuristic mythological world. Nag Ashwin has recently indicated that no fresh cast additions are planned and that Deepika’s character will not be replaced. Fans now await official updates on the film’s shooting progress and story.
