SA20: No Indian in shortlisted pool as Shakib, Anderson headline season 4 auction list

New Delhi: No Indian player has been shortlisted for the SA20 season 4 auction after a total of 541 players were finalised on Monday. The SA20 2025-26 auction will be held on September 9 in Johannesburg, and the marquee tournament will kick off on December 26, 2025.

The T20 marquee event welcomed over 800 player registrations – the highest ever in the competition’s short history. As many as 13 Indians, including Indian Premier League (IPL) legend Piyush Chawla, Punjab pacer Siddharth Kaul, among others, had reportedly registered themselves for the bidding event but were ignored from the final list of players that will go under the hammer.

Shakib, Anderson headline auction list

Out of the 541 players shortlisted, 300 are South Africans and 241 are overseas players. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and veteran England seamer James Anderson are the top international attractions in the long list of star players.

If bought in the auction, Shakib will become the first Bangladeshi player to feature in SA20. Apart from Anderson, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali, Adam Rossington, Jordan Cox, and Daniel Worrall are the other notable English players to feature in the final list.

As far as the South African players are concerned, the list is long. Star players like Aiden Markram, Anrich Nortje, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Ottneil Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Tony de Zorzi and Dane Paterson are all part of the star-studded list.

Six teams will battle it out for 84 available slots in the auction from a collective purse amount of R131 million (USD 7,37 million). Of the 84 players, 25 slots are for overseas players. All squads must pick 19 players, including a minimum of 9 South African players, a maximum of 7 international players, two U23 South African players, and a Wildcard player.
