The South Africa T20 league (SA20), which has now cemented itself as the world’s second-best franchise cricket league, will see its fourth auction on Tuesday (September) in Johannesburg as some of South Africa’ and world cricket’s finest players will go under the hammer.
This will be the first-ever mega auction of the league as the teams are looking for a dramatic overhaul of their sides. Before coming into the season four auction, all teams were allowed to either retain or use a wildcard to keep six players in their side.
In the 2026 auction, Sourav Ganguly-coached Pretoria Capitals have the highest budget, while defending champions MI Cape Town, the sister team of the lowest.
For the first time in SA20 history, teams can use the Right to Match (RTM) card in the auction. Teams have a total salary cap of salary cap of R41 million (Rs. 20.42 crores), the second-highest in the world behind the IPL. This includes the number of retained players. However, the wildcard player was outside the salary cap.

The SA20 2026 Auction will take place in Johannesburg on Tuesday (September 9) from 2:00 PM Local/5:30 PM IST. It will be live-streamed on the Jiohotstar and telecasted on Star Sports 1 in India.
Players Up For Grabs
Some top South African players are set to go under the hammer with the likes of Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, Dewald Brevis the highlights.
Among overseas names, James Anderson will be up for grabs as the 43-year-old aims to make his debut in the league. Shakib Al Hasan and Tim Southee
A total of 549 players are set to come for sale. However, none of the 13 registered Indian players made the shortlist.
