The Rural Economic Status and the Report of the Rural Economic Status (RECSS) released by NABARD in July 2025 has clearly indicated that the rural economy is gaining momentum. According to the report, 76.6% of rural families have said to increase consumption (expenditure), which reflects a permanent direction of consumption -based development.
This survey is an important means of understanding the government’s schemes and the real impact of rural development programs. In this, data related to income, expenditure, debt and thinking is collected at home levels. Through this, it is known how effective public welfare schemes are proving to be at the ground level. The results of the survey presents positive pictures of increasing income, access to banking services and increasing trust in rural families.
76.6% of rural families increased expenditure
In the report, 76.6% rural families have admitted that their expenditure has increased in the last one year and 39.6% has said to increase income in the last one year. Both these figures are the highest among all surveys so far. Apart from this, now the economic situation of rural India is improving. 20.6% of the families are such that they are now paying more savings. Apart from this, 52.6% loans are meeting their needs.
Employment and income expected to increase
The report said that 74.7% of the families are expected to increase their income next year, while 56.2% are expected to get better employment opportunities in the near future. Steps such as government assistance and improvement in infrastructure are promoting the strength of rural areas. The concern of inflation has reduced, as more than 78.4% of families feel that the current inflation rate is 5% or less, which reflects the stability in prices.
Important role of government assistance
Financial assistance schemes of the central and state governments are playing an important role in strengthening the income and spending levels of rural families. This assistance is provided by the government in both cash and goods forms. It also includes subsidy on cheese like food items, electricity, cooking gas, fertilizer, school needs, transport, food, pension and interest on interest. According to estimates, these government help is equal to about 10% of the monthly income of a family. Such schemes reduce economic pressure, especially for weaker sections and help families to overcome the crisis.
