Rupee opens 11 paise up at 86.62 against dollar as crude eases

The rupee opened 11 paise up on June 20 as crude oil prices eased after the White House said US President Donald Trump would take a decision on American intervention in the Israel-Iran conflict in two weeks, calming immediate fears of escalation.

The currency opened at 86.62 against the dollar after ending the previous session at 86.73.

During a White House press briefing, press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared a message from Trump, saying he would decide within the next two weeks whether the US would take action, as there is a possibility of upcoming negotiations with Iran.

The statement comes amid reports by the American news channel CBS that Trump was totally viewing “disabling the Fordo nuclear site as necessary”. Trump is of view that there is actually not much of a choice for the US. “Finishing job means destroying Fordo,” the report said.

According to a BBC report, Fordo is a uranium enrichment site 96km south of Tehran in a mountainous region close to Qom. The Fordo nuclear facility, is buried deep underground and the US is the only country believed to have a bomb large enough to destroy the site.
