Along with this, she has also become world number 6 player, which has happened for the first time in Indian history. She is the first Taekwondo athlete from India who has made it to the top 10 in the world rankings. It is a big thing for Rupa Beor to achieve such a big position because this player has earned his living by working in the rice fields. This player doesn’t even have the shadow of his father on his head. Not only this, Rupa’s mother Yami Beyor was also an orphan and even when she lost her husband, she made her daughter a champion player.

Unique story of Rupa Beyor

Roopa was born in Sippy village near Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. She was born in a very poor family. His mother Yami Bayor is a widow and was herself an orphan. After the death of the father, the mother took over the responsibility of the family, but the financial condition was very weak. Rupa worked in the fields in her childhood and hence she did not pay much attention to studies but she had a deep love for sports. Her maternal uncle, who was a karate master, saw his niece’s aggression and talent and introduced Rupa to the sport of Taekwondo in 2015. Initially Rupa started Taekwondo just for time pass but later it became a part of her life. It was just time pass, but later it became his life.

Paid the price of being born in Arunachal!

Rupa lived in a small village, where there were no resources. She was short of money and hence could not do training and travel. Along with this, being born in Arunachal was also a problem for him because China had not given him a visa for the Hangzhou Asian Games in the year 2022. On one hand, in India, sports like cricket, wrestling, boxing get financial support, whereas Taekwondo players have to spend money from their own pockets to play tournaments. Despite all these challenges, Rupa did not give up. In 2021, she shifted to Mumbai and started training with coach Abhishek Dubey at the Indo-Korean Taekwondo Academy. Abhishek Dubey took her to the professional stage and Welspun Super Sports Women’s Program gave her financial support.
