Ruben Amorim Confident Bruno Fernandes Will Not Leave Manchester United This Summer

Ruben Amorim remains optimistic that Bruno Fernandes will continue his journey with Manchester United, despite ongoing speculation about a potential transfer.

Reports suggest that Al-Hilal from the Saudi Pro League is considering a bid for the Manchester United captain. Fernandes was a key player during a challenging season for the team.

Al-Hilal aims to finalise the deal soon, with the Club World Cup scheduled to start in the United States on June 14. Last season, Fernandes contributed significantly with 37 goal involvements, comprising 19 goals and 18 assists. Despite his efforts, United finished 15th in the Premier League and lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

The 30-year-old midfielder played in United’s last match of their post-season tour in Malaysia. The game concluded with a 3-1 win against Hong Kong on Friday. Fernandes was substituted at half-time after starting the match. Juninho scored first for Hong Kong, but Chido Obi’s two goals and Ayden Heaven’s late strike secured victory for United.

Amorim acknowledges that losing Fernandes would be significant for Manchester United. However, he also notes that the club could benefit financially from a substantial transfer fee, especially after missing out on European competitions next season.

Fernandes extended his contract until 2027 last August, with an option for an additional year. Amorim remains calm about the situation, stating: “I don’t think so,” when asked if Fernandes had played his last game for United against Hong Kong. He added that while no one can be certain, he believes Fernandes wants to stay.

“He’s seeing us take some action to change things and I think he wants to stay,” Amorim explained. “He’s saying no to a lot of things, but he chose that he wants to win.” Amorim emphasised Fernandes’ youth and talent, asserting his need to play in top-tier leagues.

Potential Offers and Financial Considerations

When questioned about whether Manchester United could refuse a lucrative offer from Al-Hilal for Fernandes, Amorim confidently replied: “Yes, we can find another way to get money.” This statement reflects his belief in alternative financial strategies for the club.

Amorim’s confidence suggests that Manchester United is prepared to explore other avenues rather than parting ways with their captain. The club values Fernandes’ contributions and aims to retain him as they work towards improving their performance in upcoming seasons.
