Tamil Nadu Chief Minsiter, M K Stalin, is set to expand its Rs 1,000 monthly assistance scheme for college going men and women. CM Stalin announced on Wednesday that the Tamil Nadu government will make the official announcement in an event being held today (September 25) titled “Tamil Nadu Excels in Education”.
Stalin said his Telangana counterpart Revanth Reddy will also be taking part in the event. “We in Tamil Nadu believe that education is the true measure of progress for any society. Through the #DravidianModel, our government continues to turn this belief into action,” Stalin said in a tweet on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter).
“Tomorrow, as we host the “Tamil Nadu Excels in Education” event, which will also mark the expansion of our landmark #PudhumaiPenn and #TamilPudhalvan schemes, I extend a warm and affectionate welcome to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Thiru. @revanth_anumula, whose esteemed presence will add pride and strength to this celebration of learning,” he added. “I am equally eager to meet our bright students and share in their energy and aspirations.”
The ‘Pudhumai Penn’ and ‘Tamil Pudhalvan’ are schemes for college-going women and men respectively. Launched on September 5, 2022, by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme is managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment. To be eligible for this, candidate must be a female student residing in Tamil Nadu, and should have studied in government or government-aided schools from Class 6 to Class 12. They should also be currently enrolled in recognised undergraduate degree, diploma, ITI, or other higher education courses.
Launched in 2024, the ‘Tamil Pudhalvan’ is aimed at supporting male students from government and government-aided schools who are pursuing higher education. This scheme provides a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to eligible students. Eligible candidates are male students who have completed their education from Class 6 to 12 in Tamil medium at government or government-aided schools in Tamil Nadu. They should be permanent residents of Tamil Nadu, and must be enrolled in undergraduate, diploma, polytechnic, or ITI courses.
The Tamil Nadu government will showcase its educational achievements at the “Tamil Nadu Excels in Education” event, scheduled today (September 25) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
