According to media reports, Kolkata Knight Riders have made full preparations to appoint Abhishek Nair as their head coach for IPL 2026. According to a report in Indian Express, Abhishek Nair has been informed about this decision of the franchise last week and it is expected to be announced soon. Let us tell you, Abhishek Nair was a part of the same team last year also. Then he joined the team as support staff.
Abhishek Nair will replace Chandrakant Pandit in the coming season, who replaced former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum in 2022. Chandrakant Pandit was the head coach of KKR for 3 seasons. Under his leadership, in 2024, KKR won the third IPL title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is also famous as the coach who won six Ranji Trophy titles in domestic cricket.
Abhishek Nair was a part of KKR in 2024 also
Nair was part of the coaching staff of Kolkata that won the title in 2024. He has been working in the role of assistant coach for many seasons. But in 2024, he joined Team India as an assistant coach. Due to which he had to part ways with KKR. But in less than 10 months he was dropped from the team. Due to which he once again returned to the KKR team.
