Rohit Sharma vows to do everything possible to win ODI World Cup 2027 for India

New Delhi: In a recent interview, former India skipper Rohit Sharma has expressed his utter desperation for winning the ODI World Cup 2027 trophy for India. Despite having the T20 World Cup title and the Champions Trophy title twice, Rohit has expressed his desire to bag the ODI World Cup title once.

Apart from these ICC titles, Rohit has also had as many six Indian Premier League (IPL) crowns to his name for Mumbai Indians but this hadn’t satiated the thirst for the veteran Indian cricketer. Rohit became emotional while talking about his aspirations of bagging an ODI World Cup trophy during a recent event, mentions a report in CricTracker.

ODI World Cup pinnacle of cricket: Rohit

The right-handed Mumbai batter said that he the ODI World Cup was the pinnacle of cricket during his childhood days with events like the T20 World Cup, IPL, and World Test Championship commencing after he had already made his international debut. He further said that since he has grown up watching the tournament, he really wants that trophy.

‘I will definitely want to go out there & win the World Cup for my country, that is something that I’ve always looked upon, I’ve grown up watching this 50-over WC,’ Rohit said during a DP World event.

‘There was no T20 WC, no IPL, no WTC back then and that was the pinnacle of Cricket which used to happen every four years so there was desperation, there was so much weight for that one trophy – I really want that trophy so I’m gonna try and do everything in my power and capacity to work hard and get it,’ Rohit added.

Rohit has played 282 ODIs, amassing 11577 runs at an average of 48.85 and a strike rate of 92.75. The Mumbai batter has 61 fifties and 33 tons in the format. In the previous World Cup in 2023, he finished as the second-highest run-getter behind Virat Kohli. Both Rohit and Kohli retired from Tests and T20Is but continue playing the 50-over format.
