Rohit Sharma Just One Match Away From Joining Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli In Huge List

Rohit Sharma will make his much-awaited return to international cricket in the ODI series against Australia on October 19. The India ODI captain will lead the Men in Blue in the three-match ODI series.

The three ODIs will be played on October 19, 23 and 25. Rohit hasn’t played international cricket since the 2025 Champions Trophy final, which took place in March. Apart from him, Virat Kohli will also make his return to international cricket on October 19.

Rohit will achieve a huge feat upon his return to international cricket and join the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in an elite list. Rohit, who made his India debut in 2007, is just one match away from playing 500 matches in international cricket.

The right-handed batsman has played 67 Tests, 273 ODIs and 159 T20Is. He retired from T20Is after leading India to a title win in the 2024 World Cup. He quit Test cricket in May 2025.

Sachin, who is the most capped player in history, played 664 matches for Team India. He is followed by Virat Kohli, who has played 550 matches. MS Dhoni (538) and Rahul Dravid (509) are the other Indian players to play more than 500 international cricket. Rohit will join them in the list in October.

Rohit cemented his spot in 2013

Rohit Sharma was in and out of the team from 2007 to 2013. MS Dhoni’s decision to give him the opening job in 2013 did wonders for Rohit, and he became a regular in white-ball cricket. Six years later, Rohit started opening in Test cricket.

His batting prowess saw him replace Virat as India’s all-format captain in the 2021/22 season. Rohit-led India made it to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, played in India. The Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final to lift the trophy for the second time.
