Roger Federer is all set to return to the US Open 2026, four years after announcing his retirement from professional tennis. Federer will share the court with fellow legends like Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi and John McEnroe during a one-night exhibition during Fan Week.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion will face Andy Roddick in the one-set singles contest, with the winner to be decided by a tie-breaker point if required. Roddick and Federer shared a rich on-field rivalry, meeting 24-times, with Federer winning 21 of those games. The veteran will then partner John McEnroe against Roddick and Andre Agassi in the doubles event.
Federer expressed delight over his return to New York, where he’s achieved some of the biggest wins of his career. The Swiss legend won five US Open titles during his stunning career. Federer’s last appearance came in 2019. He couldn’t compete in the last three editions when he was still an active player due to injuries. Meanwhile, Federer’s five titles remain a joint record in the Open Era, alongside Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors.
“Looking forward to being back in New York and adding new memories to so many special ones over the years,” Federer said. “See you soon NYC.”
Meanwhile, Andy Roddick is also a former US Open champion, having lifted the trophy in 2003 after beating Juan Carlos Ferrero. McEnroe, on the other hand, won seven Grand Slams, including four US Opens, while Agassi won eight majors, winning in New York twice in 1994 and 1999.
The exhibition will take place on August 25. The US Open main draw gets underway on August 30, while the qualifying rounds begin on August 24.
