Rockstar shuts Social Club after 13 years, GTA 6 platform likely coming

New Delhi: Rockstar Games has officially pulled the plug on its long-running Social Club platform, quietly retiring the service that had been around for more than 13 years. The change, spotted by GTA community watcher @videotechuk_, was first noticed when the original Social Club URL started redirecting users to Rockstar’s main homepage earlier this week.

The Social Club launched back in 2008 with Grand Theft Auto IV, giving players a central space to track in-game stats, show off screenshots, check online leaderboards, and hang out with friends across Rockstar titles. It was once a big deal for GTA and Red Dead fans. But over time, the service became clunky, full of bugs, and rarely updated. Now, it looks like Rockstar has finally decided to let it go.

Social Club site now redirects to Rockstar homepage

If you try to visit the old Social Club page today, you’ll land straight on Rockstar’s main site instead. No warning, no goodbye message, nothing. Just a silent redirect.

That said, not everything is gone. Some features still survive in other parts of the Rockstar Games ecosystem:

  • GTA Crews are still live through the GTA Online site
  • Game progress tracking is still visible through Rockstar’s main account page
  • Friends lists are available, but with limited info

What’s missing are the personal profiles, walls, and screenshot galleries that were once part of the Social Club experience.

The rebrand began in 2023

This shutdown didn’t come out of nowhere. Back in November 2023, Rockstar quietly updated the Social Club’s site and language. Phrases like “Social Club members” were replaced with “Rockstar Games members,” and “Social Club account” became just a “Rockstar Games account.”

At the time, many players assumed this was early prep work for the next big thing: Grand Theft Auto 6.

All eyes now on GTA 6 launch

With GTA 6 officially scheduled for a May 2026 release, fans are now speculating that Rockstar is planning a brand-new platform to go live alongside the game. Given how central online services are to GTA Online, it’s likely a new system will be introduced that’s more modern and reliable.

For now, the death of Social Club feels like the end of an era. But honestly, a lot of players won’t miss it. Many had complained about login issues, glitchy performance, and crew hijacks. The shutdown has even sparked relief in some parts of the GTA community.

As of July 16, 2025, Rockstar hasn’t officially announced a replacement. But with just ten months to go until GTA 6 hits consoles, we may not have to wait long.
