Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the budget expenditure for the financial year 2025-26. Instructions were given to take active initiatives to speed up the slow progressing departments, fix accountability at every level and release the budget from the Centre.
Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held an important meeting with the Finance Department on Friday morning to review the budget issued to various departments and its expenditure in the financial year 2025-26. In this meeting, the updated status of budget provisions, approvals issued by the government, allocation by department heads and actual expenditure were discussed. In the meeting, presentations were made by the top 20 departments of the state with higher budget provision, in which the progress of budget utilization was kept in detail.
Speed up the departments where budget spending is slow: CM Yogi
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave clear instructions during the review that the departments where the pace of budget expenditure is slow should speed it up immediately. He said that all the departments should ensure timely utilization of the budget, so that the schemes and projects are completed within the stipulated time and the people of the state can get their benefits. The Chief Minister laid special emphasis on developing decision-making capacity of officers and said that budget expenditure is affected due to delays, which will not be tolerated.
Responsibility and accountability should be fixed at every level
The Chief Minister directed that to spend the budget on time, clear responsibility of each officer at every level should be fixed. He said that any kind of negligence in budget expenditure will not be accepted and officials should take immediate decisions to implement the schemes.
Ministers and officials should take active initiative to release the budget from the Centre.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that one of the reasons for slow budget expenditure in some departments is non-receipt of funds from the central government on time. He directed that for the schemes for which the budget is to be released from the Central Government, ministers of the concerned departments, Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries should go to Delhi and do active lobbying.
He also instructed the Central Government to write letters, follow up by phone and make better coordination. The Chief Secretary was also asked to take initiative in this process.
Instructions to Finance Department to release pending allocation immediately
The Chief Minister directed the Finance Department that the budget of those departments whose budget has not been released yet, should be released immediately. Also, the Chief Minister’s Office was given the responsibility to identify the departments where the progress of budget expenditure is slow and issue letters to the concerned ministers.
Instructions to start preparation of budget for financial year 2026-27 from now
In the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the Finance Department to start preparing the budget for the upcoming financial year 2026-27 from now. He said that the budget demand should be reviewed by holding a meeting with all the departments and the expenditure of the last five years should be assessed before the next budget.
The Chief Minister also said that a better coordination strategy should be made from now onwards to get the budget from the Central Government on time, so that there is no delay at any level in future.
