New Delhi: Fans would have to wait to catch a glimpse of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli again on the field as the proposed India-Sri Lanka white-ball series in August has been scrapped. The series was being proposed as precursor for both the sides ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 in September and was slated to be on the line after India’s tour of Bangladesh got cancelled last month due to turmoil in the country.
According to a social media post by Vipul Kashyap from news agency ANI, there is no white-ball series happening between both the countries this month as stated by Sri Lanka cricket. After the culmination of the England Test series, India will directly play the Asia Cup in the 20-20 format beginning on September 9 in the UAE.
India’s next white-ball series against Australia
India’s first game is scheduled against UAE on September 10 while the Men in Blue play their next ODI match against the mighty Australians on October 19 at Perth. After the culmination of the continental tournament, India will play a Test series against the West Indies which would be followed by a white-ball series against the Aussies.
Meanwhile, this means that the return of both the Indian team stalwarts, Rohit and Kohli, has been further delayed by couple of months. Both the players are only active in the 50-over game after retiring from the Test format in the current year and calling it quits from the shortest format after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
