Reservation has once again come to the center stage in UP politics before the 2027 assembly elections. Samajwadi Party has made a direct attack on the Yogi government, making the alleged injustice to OBC, SC and ST classes in government jobs a big issue. SP alleges that the reservation rules in recruitment were deliberately weakened and the rights of the PDA community were snatched away.

Akhilesh Yadav’s direct accusation on BJP

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has termed BJP as anti-reservation and anti-PDA. He claims that in the last five years, reserved categories were systematically disadvantaged in UP government recruitments. Akhilesh said that illegal formulas like NFS (Not Found Suitable) were used to exclude eligible candidates and when irregularities came to light, the government only tried to hush up the matter by forming sham committees.

Akhilesh Yadav has shared a poster titled ‘Loot of reservation in Uttar Pradesh’ along with his X post. In this, citing four big recruitments, it has been claimed that more than 30 thousand PDA posts have been looted.

  • 69000 Assistant Teacher Recruitment (2019): Only 5161 posts instead of 34500 reserved posts, alleged loot of 29339 posts.
  • Banda Agricultural University Recruitment (2021): Only 2 posts instead of 8 reserved posts.
  • Lakhimpur Cooperative Bank Recruitment (2023): Out of 14 reserved posts, only 8 were given.
  • Revenue Accountant Recruitment (2025): 3037 posts instead of 3997 reserved posts, claiming reduction of 960 posts.

CM Yogi’s intervention on accountant recruitment

After allegations of reservation irregularities in Lekhpal recruitment, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave a stern warning to the Revenue Council. On the instructions of CM, re-review of district wise vacancies has been started. Yogi has clarified that 100% adherence to both vertical and horizontal reservation rules is mandatory and if negligence is found at any level, strict action will be taken against the responsible officials.

Government vs SP: Accusations and counter-allegations intensify

While SP leaders have announced a struggle in the court and on the streets, the government has rejected the allegations outright. Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said that reservation has been followed in the Yogi government before and will be followed in future also. He claimed that there are 19 OBC ministers in the cabinet and the government is giving more than 27 percent OBC reservation. Khanna accused SP of misleading the public.

Teacher recruitment case pending in Supreme Court

The case of recruitment of 69000 assistant teachers is currently pending in the Supreme Court. On this too, questions have been raised regarding the observance of OBC reservation. Many SP MLAs, including Lalji Verma, Sangram Yadav and Manoj Singh Kaka, are continuously raising this issue in the Assembly.
