In the Bihar election 2025, the four assembly seats of Kishanganj will face tough competition. AIMIM is expected to divide the Muslim vote bank by contesting elections independently, which can weaken the hold of the Grand Alliance and get unexpected benefits to the NDA.
Bihar Chunav 2025: Before the Bihar assembly elections 2025, the political battle of Kishanganj district is again gaining momentum. This Muslim -dominated district has been considered to be the fort of the grand alliance for a long time, but this time the political scenario seems to be completely changing there. The NDA is contesting the victory in Kishanganj with full force, while Owaisi’s party AIMIM contesting the independent election may be divided into the vote part of the Grand Alliance, which has led to the possibility of getting unexpected benefits to the NDA.
Status of last election
In the last assembly elections, two of the four assembly seats of Kishanganj were with the Grand Alliance, while two seats were captured by AIMIM. However, both AIMIM MLAs later joined the RJD, due to which all the seats are currently under the possession of the Grand Alliance. But this time, these equations can be changed by standing independent against AIMIM.
- Kishanganj Sadar: In 2020, Congress’s Izharul Hussain defeated BJP’s Sweety Singh by a margin of only 1,381 votes. In that election, AIMIM’s Kamarul Hoda finished third and showed a strong position with 41,904 votes. This time contesting the election of AIMIM candidate can become a challenge for the Congress.
- Thakurganj: The region, which was a Congress stronghold in the last decades, was won by Saud Alam of RJD in 2020. Former JDU candidate Gopal Aggarwal joined this seat and submitted a claim for NDA. The NDA workers’ conference in Thakurganj is also trying to strengthen its hold.
- Bahadurganj: This constituency has been in the Congress’s bag 10 times out of 16 elections. In 2020, Mohammad Anjar Naimi of AIMIM won, who has now joined the RJD. There is a possibility of contesting elections from the Grand Alliance, while the NDA will also take a tough competition here.
- Kochdhaman: Since the delimitation of 2008, this seat has been bringing a new face in the elections. Mujahid Alam of JDU won this seat several times, but has now joined RJD. Except for this, JDU is preparing to make a new claim, while the NDA is also focusing on making it its possible stronghold.
How to change the equation
The politics of Kishanganj has now become extremely complicated due to class and ethnic equations. Muslim voters are about 70% of the total population of the district and this population plays an important role in deciding the electoral policies of the district. The Congress has won this seat for a long time by winning the Muslim-Yadav alliance, but by contesting separate elections of AIMIM, Muslim votes will be distributed, due to which the grand alliance can weaken. The NDA is expected to benefit from this voter sharing, provided they maintain the support of Hindu voters. Despite the continuous defeat of the BJP in Kishanganj, it is trying to strengthen its hold in the district this time.
The four assembly seats in Kishanganj district are going to be tough fight. Changing political equations, AIMIM’s decision to contest independent elections, and NDA’s active hard work is a completely new color to the politics of the district. In which direction the voters here support the upcoming elections, it will be an important sign for the politics of Bihar.
