NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an order revising the Teacher Qualification Rules. This is with the aim of ensuring the availability of faculty in the medical education sector and improving their quality.
Doctors with 10 years of work experience can be appointed as associate professors. Senior consultants with three years of work experience in NBEMS-recognised government medical educational institutions can become professors. Senior consultants with two years of experience and no residency can also become assistant professors. According to the 2022 rules, the qualification for becoming an assistant professor was two years of service in hospitals with more than 330 beds. Hospitals with 220 beds will now be considered as medical educational institutions.
Degree and PG courses simultaneously
Undergraduate and postgraduate courses can be started simultaneously in new government medical colleges. The aim is to ensure the availability of qualified faculties to start new medical courses.
