SRINAGAR, Aug 10: Reasi women’s team emerged champions in the J&K UT ASMITA Basketball League, defeating Rajouri women by 40-30 in the final at Gindun Sports Complex, Srinagar, here today.
Reasi displayed a strong performance throughout the competition and secured a convincing victory in the title clash. Earlier, the champions defeated Srinagar by 44-14, while Rajouri entered the final after beating Samba by 31-18. Srinagar District finished as first runners-up after defeating Samba by 31-14.
The final match was officiated by Rajesh Bandral, Vaneet Pangotra and Mir Mursaleen.
The medals and trophies were presented to the participating players by MLA Lal Chowk, Ahsan Pardesi, who was the chief guest and JP Singh, former DG Sports, J&K, who was the guest of honour.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Dr Vikram Handa, President, J&K Basketball Association (JKBA); Ashok Singh Jamwal, Senior Vice President, JKBA; Aman Sharma, General Secretary, JKBA; besides other office bearers of the association, coaches, officials and senior players.
The tournament provided a competitive platform for women basketball players from different districts of the Union Territory and concluded with Reasi being crowned champions.
