Inspired by the Bollywood film ‘Special 26’, the police have arrested absconding accused Sheikh Akram (49) for planning a fake income tax raid in a jewelery workshop in Karol Bagh and looting about 1.1 kg of gold. Akram, a resident of Madangir area of South Delhi, was earlier the main accused who helped in this theft. Police recovered 130.162 grams of gold and the motorcycle used in the theft from him.
How was the fake IT raid planned?
According to the police, on November 27, five to six people entered the jewelery workshop. One of these accused wore a fake uniform of Delhi Police and the rest posed as Income Tax officers. They confiscated the mobiles of the owner and employees and conducted fake searches. After this, they ran away with about 1.1 kg of gold. Before escaping, he also removed the CCTV DVR, so that no evidence was left.
What was done to catch the absconding accused?
The first five accused were arrested, but Sheikh Akram was absconding. Based on specific information about his activities, the police laid a trap and raided the guest house of CR Park on 14 December. His identity was confirmed through technical and manual surveillance and he was arrested. During interrogation, Akram admitted his role.

According to the police, Akram had shared details of the locations with the racket’s mastermind Parminder, who is a government employee and has been arrested earlier. Police said that Akram was working in jewelery manufacturing units in Karol Bagh for many years. The officer said the information given by Akram was used to plan a fake IT raid to make quick money.
