In Rapura village of Chitrakoot, it is worshiped on Dussehra, not Ravana Dahan, but it is worshiped. In this unique tradition of two and a half hundred years old, the villagers consider Ravana to be a Brahmin and Shiva devotee and worship his statue and consider it a symbol of knowledge and prosperity.
On the occasion of Dussehra, when there are preparations for Ravana combustion in the whole country, pandals decorate and the symbol of the victory of good over evil is celebrated, at the same time the tradition of Rapura village in Chitrakoot shocked everyone. Here the effigy of Ravana is not burnt, but it is worshiped and respected.
Tradition of Ravana Puja, two hundred and fifty years old in Rapura village
Outside the village of Rapura, about two and a half years old statue of Ravana is installed on the main road. On the day of Dussehra, the villagers offer flowers in front of this statue in the morning, break coconut and worship it by law. Also, a grand Ramlila is also organized here in the evening, but the special thing is that the statue is never burnt.

The people of the village believe that Ravana was not just a demon but a great pundit, a Brahmin and an exclusive devotee of Shiva. He studied the Vedas-Puranas in an in-depth and made incomparable contribution in the field of learning. The villagers believe that worshiping the goodness of Ravana keeps knowledge, peace and prosperity in the village.
Villagers claim: Ravana blesses high positions and success
Local people say that there has been prosperity in the village since the statue of Ravana was installed. Many youths here are working in IAS, PCS and other government posts. The villagers consider it as the result of Ravana’s blessings and believe that his worship paves the way for education and success.
