According to the popular story, a demon lived at this place in Tretayuga. He wanted to fight Ravana but whenever he used to go to Lanka and go there and calm his mind. When Ravana came to know about this, he asked that demon about it. The demon said, ‘I come here every time with a desire for war, but seeing you, my anger gets calm. Then Ravana said, ‘Where you live, make my statue and fight with him. The demon did the same. This is the same statue that people later installed in the temple.
