New Delhi: Rashid Khan achieved a big feat in ODI cricket on Wednesday after the spinner became the first bowler from Afghanistan to complete 200 wickets in the format. Rashid achieved the massive feat during the first ODI game against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi.
Rashid, who is one of the standout players in the unit, attained the milestone with his first wicket at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. During the first innings, the right-arm leg spinner claimed three wickets in his 10 overs giving away just 38 runs. Because of his spell, Afghanistan bowled out Bangladesh for 221 runs in 48.5 overs.
After his first scalp in the 39th over in the innings, he took the other two wickets in the 41st and 45th over of the match. Khan first claimed the big wicket of Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz before getting Jaker Ali out soon. Nurul Hasan was his final victim of the day, falling to Rashid’s spin in the 45th over.

Second-fastest spinner to 200 wickets
Rashid reached the milestone of 200 ODI wickets in just 115 matches, making him the second-fastest spinner to do so. the Afghanistan player is only behind Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq who managed to achieve the feat in 104 matches. The other players in the elite list are Australia’s Shane Warne (125 matches), England’s Adil Rashid (137 matches), and India’s Anil Kumble (147 matches).
Meanwhile, at the time of writing this report, Afghanistan had scored 128/2 in 29 overs, needing 94 more runs to win the encounter. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah were both batting on identical score of 47 runs. Afghanistan would be aiming to bounce back in the three-match ODI series after going down 0-3 in the T20I leg preceding the 50-over games.
