Rapid diabetes cases in youth, tension in study

Diabetes cases are increasing in the country

Diabetes is a disease that used to hear at one time that an elderly person has happened. A 70-80-year-old man used to hear about getting diabetes. Also, sometimes we used to hear that one or two people have diabetes and they avoid sweet. But, in today’s time, if you are sitting somewhere among the people and come in front to eat something sweet, then there are many people who take back hands due to diabetes. At the same time, there are many who take precaution to avoid this disease and avoid eating sweet.

Recently, shocking figures have emerged regarding increasing diabetes in the country. A study was done on India’s aging adults. It was revealed that in 2019, almost every fifth person aged 45 years and above has diabetes. Along with this, it was also revealed in the study that 2 of these five people do not know that they have diabetes.

Diabetes growing in middle age

This report has been presented in The Lancet Global Health. This shows that as the population of the country is going towards growing age rapidly, the cases of diabetes in middle age and elderly will increase. Researchers, including researchers from the International Population Sciences Institute of Mumbai and America, also found that 46 percent of the people aware of diabetes have controlled their sugar level level, while about 60 percent of the people were able to control their blood pressure in the same year. The team said that 6 percent of the people were taking lipid reducing drugs to reduce the risk of cardiac disease.

‘Longitudinal Aging Study in India’ (LASI) in India, which surveyed about 60,000 adults between 45 years and above during 2017-2019, found that metabolic condition was similar in men and women (about 20 percent) and in urban areas it was doubled compared to rural areas. The researcher said that apart from this, more people are suffering from diabetes in the state which are financially developed.

Where is rural or city more case?

The team found that a person in about five years of age or older had diabetes (50.4 million persons), while diabetes cases are doubled in cities as compared to rural areas. The authors said that in comparison to the results of the previous national survey, such as the research of India Council of Medical Research-India Diabetes (ICMR-India) which extends from 2008-2020, LASI’s findings show that there is a slightly more achievement of target of glycemic and blood pressure, but there is less achievement of lipid-lowering drug targets among the population.

The authors report proves that India is still in the era of Nutrition Transition, where diabetes is being found in the most rich and high social classes. Apart from this, research also showed that diabetes is more prevalent among elderly people, which is an important thing because India’s population is growing rapidly.

The results indicate that in the coming years, the number of diabetes patients in middle age and elderly people in India will increase, even if the rate of diabetes can be prevented at all ages.
