Ranveer Singh wants the dispute over his exit from ‘Don 3’ to remain a private matter between him and the film’s producers, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
The actor has reportedly told the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) that the industry body should not intervene in the matter.
Ranveer questions IMPPA’s role
The latest development comes days after Ranveer’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, approached IMPPA over Excel Entertainment’s reported Rs 45 crore compensation claim against the actor. He submitted a plea challenging the claim.
IMPPA is now examining documents provided by both sides. The association will decide its next step after reviewing the material.
According to media reports, Ranveer believes the dispute is contractual and should be handled only by the people directly involved.
“His lawyers mentioned that FWICE or IMPPA should not be the ones handling the issue. He believes it doesn’t come under their jurisdiction,” media reports say.
Producers take dispute to industry bodies
The actor’s position comes as the producers have turned to industry organisations after their attempts to settle the matter directly with Ranveer reportedly did not work.
The source added that FWICE and IMPPA are industry bodies that generally step in when such disputes arise. “As an industry, these are the bodies that step in to resolve such matters. So, he will have to toe the line,” the source said.
IMPPA defends its intervention
IMPPA President Abhay Sinha said the association was following the rules that govern its functioning.
“We are a producers’ body and are acting in accordance with the laws governing us,” Sinha told ‘India Today’.
He said IMPPA would make a decision after the lawyers representing both sides examine the documents.
“Once the lawyers of both parties go through the documents, we will be able to take a call,” Sinha said. “He is entitled to have his opinions, but we are following the protocols.”
