Ranji Trophy: The second round of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season got off to a very exciting start as two hat-tricks were recorded in the same innings in the first two sessions on the first day of the Assam-Services match. Two services bowlers wreaked havoc on Riyan Parag’s team and created history by taking a hat-trick. This is the first time in Ranji history that two bowlers have taken hat-tricks in the same innings. A total of 25 wickets fell on the first day of this match. During this period, 11 batsmen could not even open their account.
What happened in this match?

Assam’s decision to bat first after winning the toss proved wrong when Arjun’s teammate and left-arm fast bowler Mohit Jangra achieved the second hat-trick of the innings. Jangra dismissed opener Pradyun Saikia on the last ball of the 15th over. Pradyun Saikia played an inning of 52 runs in 42 balls with the help of 3 fours and 6 sixes. After this, Jangra achieved his hat-trick in first class by dismissing Mukhtar Hussain Bhargava Lakhar on the first and second balls of the 17th over. In this way, Assam’s first innings was reduced to only 103 runs in 17.2 overs.

Services bowler Arjun Sharma took 5 wickets for 46 runs in 6.2 overs. Mohit Jangra took 3 wickets giving only 5 runs in 4 overs. Pulkit Narang got two wickets. This is the first time in the history of Ranji Trophy when two bowlers have taken hat-tricks in the same innings.
Earlier, former bowler Joginder Singh Rao, who played five matches for Services almost five decades ago, had taken two hat-tricks in the same innings. Rao is the only Indian to take multiple hat-tricks in the same innings of a first-class match, he achieved this feat in a match against Northern Punjab in Amritsar in 1963. However, more drama was seen in this competition between Assam and Services.
Riyan Parag showed his strength with the ball
Assam’s innings had a very poor start after scoring only 103 runs. His first innings was also limited to only 108 runs in 29.2 overs. Only Irfan Khan could show some fight from the team. He scored unbeaten 51 runs in 81 balls with the help of 4 fours and 1 six. from assam Riyan Parag Took 5 wickets. During this, he came close to taking a hat-trick by dismissing three batsmen in four balls.
Parag’s partner Rahul Singh also had a chance for a hat-trick, as the Services batsmen were also out early. However, the visiting team took a slight lead in the first innings as both the innings ended in 47 overs before tee time. By the end of the day’s play, Assam had scored 56 runs for 5 wickets in its second innings. A total of 25 wickets fell on the first day.
