Recently, Rani had a candid conversation with Karan Johar during the celebration of 30 years of Rani Mukerji in films. At the event, Rani left everyone in shock by confessing that she would have gotten married before joining films, as her parents wanted her to tie the knot at an early age. However, things suddenly changed in her life when she was offered Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1997).
Rani Mukerji makes shocking revelation
In conversation with Karan Johar, her parents thought that she would follow a traditional path. The actress stated that working or building a career was not something her father imagined for her. Her parents thought her elder brother was meant to do the earning duties, while she was expected to get married early.
Surprisingly, the set rule was changed after she was approached for Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. Rani Mukerji stated that destiny had other plans for her. When filmmaker Salim Akhtar approached Rani for Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, her mother encouraged her to take a chance on acting. It has to be noted that the filmmaker was Rani’s family friend.

After years, Rani Mukerji realised why her mother encouraged her to work in films. She realised after several years that her mother wanted to improve the family’s financial situation. “Because they knew that if I do well in this thing, maybe things would be better. But probably at that point of time, I didn’t see it from that angle,” Rani Mukerji added.
Rani tried her luck in films, and the rest is history.
