Miovski struck twice before half-time despite a nervy start from Rangers at Ibrox, then converted a penalty on 74 minutes to complete the treble. Kieran Dowell added the third goal soon after the break, easing any pressure, before Thelo Aasgaard finished the scoring with a well-hit free-kick that underlined the hosts control.
The mood among the home support was lifted before kick-off when Rangers unveiled the surprise loan signing of Andreas Skov Olsen. New arrivals Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens were also presented to the fans before the Scottish Cup tie, signalling a drive to strengthen the squad depth for the Scottish Premiership title race.
Rangers dominance on the scoreboard matched the overall flow of the tie, as Annan Athletic struggled to create clear chances. Rohl, however, highlighted the need to manage fitness and recovery, pointing to a demanding schedule ahead. The head coach also noted that squad rotation meant the starting eleven required time to build rhythm.
Across interviews with BBC Scotland and Premier Sports, Rohl said: “A clean sheet and five goals is always nice. In general, it was a good week for us. Some good results, good signings. All in, it went in the right direction. I’m happy to see some players on the pitch again, and academy players. I’m proud of our development. The fans are back, six wins in a row. It’s fantastic. But we cannot rest, we must be on the front foot. 5-0 is a good result for us. We needed a little bit time. We rotated the players and they weren’t too connected but they got better and better. We controlled. Respect to the opponent, they gave everything. This is what we had to do today, not more. It’s about recovering. We have big games ahead of us. All in all, I’m happy.”
Rohl accepted that the side started somewhat disjointed because of the changes, though Rangers gradually tightened control and restricted Annan Athletic. The head coach praised the efforts of the visitors, who worked hard despite the scoreline, and again pointed to the involvement of academy players as evidence of ongoing development within the squad.
With a place in the Scottish Cup last 16 secured, Rangers carry strong momentum from six successive wins and a convincing clean-sheet victory. The arrival of Andreas Skov Olsen, alongside Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens, adds further options as Rohl balances rotation, recovery and form ahead of key league and cup matches.
