EDUCATE Girls NGO: Indian NGO Educate Girls received the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award, became the first Indian organization to receive the honor. This organization, which educated 2 million+ girls in 30,000 villages, was founded by Safina Hussain in 2007.
Ramon Magsaysay Award 2025 Winner: Asia’s largest and prestigious honor, Roman Magsaysay Award 2025, has brought a historical achievement for India. Self -Help Group Educate Girls NGO has become the first Indian organization to receive this award. This organization, which has reached more than 30,000 villages by making girls’ education a mission, is now increasing the pride of India on the international stage. The 67th Ramon Magsaysay Awards ceremony will be held on 7 November 2025 at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila, where the winners will be awarded a medal, citation and cash amount with the picture of President Ramon Magsaysay.
Inspired start of educate girls: Safina Hussain’s resolve
Educate Girls Foundation, which Safina Hussain started in 2007, has become a global revolution in the field of education today. Safina Hussain, a graduate from the London School of Economics, dreamed of abolishing the roots of female illiteracy and returned to India from San Francisco and laid the foundation of this mission from Rajasthan.

How the mass movement of education made of a small project?
The organization initially worked to bring girls who did not go to school as a pilot project in 50 villages of Rajasthan. Gradually, this initiative increased and today more than 20 lakh girls have got education opportunity in 30,000 villages. Not only this, more than 90% of girls continued their studies.
Unique model to connect education with financial results
In 2015, Educate Girls launched the world’s first Development Impact Bond (DIB), which connected the funding directly with the measuring results of education. This model has become a source of inspiration for many international organizations today.
Progress Program: A ray of hope for adolescent girls and women
The organization also launched Pragati Open Schooling Program, which gives 15–29-year-old women a chance to complete education and reach economic opportunities. The program has traveled from 300 to 31,500+ participants.
