Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is one of this year’s most exciting releases. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and others, the mythological epic is scheduled for a theatrical release on Diwali this year. After the film’s trailer was released, Zoom did an exclusive interview with Ajinkya Deo. The actor has played the role of Guru Vishwamitra. However, while interacting with us, the senior actor shared that he had initially auditioned for King Dashrath’s role. Eventually, he was finalised for Guru Vishwamitra’s character.
Ajinkya Deo on auditioning for Lord Dashrath’s role
In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Ajinkya Deo recalled the time he auditioned for King Dashrath’s character for .The actor said, “When they approached me, this was like three to four years ago, I don’t remember exactly. I think 2023, it was when they auditioned me, but they asked me to audition for King Dashrath’s role. I believe things were different at that time.”

The actor further added, “I sent my audition, I waited, and I was a little hesitant because it’s such a big film. Namit (Malhotra) has been such a great friend and also a fantastic person. And of course, working with Nitesh was going to be one of the calling factors.”
While he initially auditioned for a different character, the actor later got a call saying that he had been selected to portray Guru Vishwamitra. “That was more impactful to me because Guru Vishwamitra was the person who knew the journey of Ram. He was the one who actually went to Indra and said that Vishnu had to take an avatar. And that’s how Vishnu took an avatar as Ram,” added.
Ajinkya Deo
As the conversation continued, the senior actor stated that he has a powerful role in the mythological epic. “As the angry sage, as he is known across the universe, I think it’s more glorious to do that role. And of course, (King) Dashrath has been played by Arun Govilji. Nobody could have been better than that for that role.”

Meanwhile, Ramayana has been produced by Yash and Namit Malhotra. The movie features Ranbir as Lord Rama, Sai as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra, Ravie Dubey as Lord Lakshman, and others.
