Ramayana’s Pratham Sankalp event held in Delhi introduced the characters through an interesting comic book format. The guests who attended the event on July 18 received it to understand the vision of the movie better. The comic book confirmed the names of actors playing central roles in Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus. While Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and Ravi Dubey’s characters were confirmed previously, the full list has now been revealed. From Anupam Kher as Jatayu to Faisal Malik as Kumbhakarna, meet the entire cast of Ramayana and understand their character sketches.

According to the comic book, Rama was the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and the ideal man or Maryada Purushottam.

Sai Pallavi as Sita
The comic book describes Sita as Bhoomi Devi, who is believed to have been born, not among humans, but as the Goddess of Earth. “Fearless and loyal to the core, she abandoned her life of comfort and luxury to accompany her husband into exile, even though she was not required to. When abducted by Ravana, Sita’s presence of mind helped Rama track her down,” it read.

As per the comic book, Ravana was “blessed with a boon from Lord Brahma, making him invincible to all beings except humans. He was angered when he saw the dignity of the rakshasas being eroded under his half-brother, Kubera. Ravana performed severe penance to lord brahma for ten thousand years and was granted boons. He asked for invincibility from gods, demons, and celestial beings, forgetting to include humans and monkeys as he considered them too lowly to fear.”

Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari
Kajal Aggarwal has been signed to play the role of Mandodari, Ravana’s wife, in Ramayana. However, she will not be having many scenes in the first installment of the franchise.

Shurpanakha is the catalyst of Ramayana. After Lakshmana chops off her ear and nose, the revenge saga begins. Rakul Preet Singh will be seen playing Ravana’s sister.

Shobana has been cast as Ravana’s mother. She is the daughter of the Asura king Sumali and married sage Vishrava. Together, they had four children – Ravana, Kumbhakarna, Vibhishana, and Shurpanakha.

Ravi Dubey plays Lakshmana, who is described as someone who was skilled in the use of celestial weapons. Rama trusted Lakshmana with his life in Ayodhya. He accompanied Rama and Sita and was fiercely loyal towards them. The comic book read, “It is believed that Lakshmana did not sleep a wink for the 14 years of their exile. He had asked for a boon that he would always be awake to protect Rama and Sita. In one such act of protection, Lakshmana cut off the demoness Shurpanakha’s ears and nose, setting the stage for the epic battle of the Ramayana.”

Addinath Kothare as Bharata
Addinath Kothare plays Bharata, the younger brother of Rama. Despite being born a prince, he never desired power for himself.

Nitish Sharma plays the youngest prince of Ayodhya, Shatrughna. His fierce sense of justice peaked when he nearly executed the scheming maid Manthara, stopping only because Bharata reminded him that Rama would never forgive him if he harmed a woman. Shatrughna is believed to be the mortal incarnation of Lord Vishnu’s flying discus, Sudarshana Chakra.

Kunal Kapoor plays the role of Indra, who defeated the Rakshas rule. Indra also closely watches Rama’s journey, recognising him as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, destined to restore cosmic order.

Kaushalya is Dashratha’s first and eldest wife. Rama is her son. When Rama was sent into exile, she longed to accompany him, unable to imagine life without her beloved son. But out of duty to her husband and the kingdom, she remained behind. Kaushalya overcame every hardship with grace, compassion and an unshakable sense of duty.

Sumitra was the second queen of Ayodhya and mother of Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Profoundly wise, she stands as the emotional anchor of the royal family during its darkest hours. When Ayodhya is torn apart by Kaikeyi’s demands and Rama’s exile, Sumitra shows unparalleled fortitude by actively encouraging her son Lakshmana to accompany his brother into the wilderness.

Though blessed with a prosperous kingdom and three loving wives, Dashratha longed for a son. His prayers were answered with the birth of four princes. Rama, his eldest, was especially dear to him. But bound by a promise made to Kaikeyi, Dashratha was forced to send Rama into exile for 14 years.

Kaikeyi was Dashratha’s youngest and favourite queen. She received two boons from the king after saving him in a battle. Influenced by Manthara, she demanded Rama’s exile to ensure her son Bharata ruled the throne.

Manthara was Kaikeyi’s trusted maid and Bharata’s governess. When Rama was to be crowned heir to the throne, Manthara convinced Kaikeyi that Bharata’s position in the kingdom was in danger. She filled Kaikeyi’s mind with doubt and fear.

Faisal Malik as Kumbhakarna
Known for playing the role of Prahlad Cha in TVF’s Panchayat franchise on Amazon Prime Video, Faisal Malik has been cast as Kumbhakarna in Ramayana. He is one of Ravana’s brothers.

You have known him as Vasooli bhai, and now Mukesh Tiwari is about to change the image with Ramayana. The actor plays Rishi Agastya in the film. He is the one who provides knowledge and divine assistance to Rama throughout his journey.

Vivek Oberoi joins the cast of Ramayana as Vidyutjihva. He will be seen playing the role of Rakul Preet Singh’s husband.

Earlier, reports claimed that the makers had roped in Amitabh Bachchan to be the voice and eyes of Jatayu. However, as per the comic book, Anupam Kher is playing the part.

Besides them, Shishir Sharma will play Vashishtha, the royal priest of the Ikshvaku dynasty. Ajinkya Deo will be seen as Vishwamitra, the sage who takes Rama and Lakshmana away from Ayodhya. Harish Uthaman portrays Vibhishana, Ravana’s younger brother.
Ramayana, a two-part franchise, releases on Diwali 2026. The second installment arrives in 2027. The film is co-produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash. The trailer will release on July 24 at the San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
