Beginning of fasting: At present, the holy month of Ramadan is going on, which is most important for Muslims. During this one month, Muslims remain busy in worshiping Allah and keep fast. The month of Ramzan started in India from 19 February 2026. The month of Ramadan has been called the month of blessings, mercy and forgiveness. The importance of Ramadan has been described in the holiest book of Islam, Quran Sharif. The month of Ramadan Mubarak is also important in this respect, because in this the verses of Quran Majeed started descending from the sky. The verses of the Quran started being revealed to Prophet Muhammad in the month of Ramadan. After this, the descent of Quran Sharif from the sky to the world was completed in 23 years.

For this special reason, special attention is given to the recitation of Quran Sharif in Ramadan and Muslims earn rewards by reading Quran as much as possible. Ramadan is such a blessed month in which Allah has made fasting mandatory for Muslims. It is mentioned in Islamic Hadiths that in this month the doors of heaven are opened and the doors of hell are closed. Apart from this, the devil is imprisoned in this month. Fasting in Islam started from the time of the world’s first human being, Adam Alaihissalam. Islamic tradition shows that fasting was obligatory on ‘Ayame-Beej’ i.e. 13th, 14th and 15th of every month. Judah and Nazareth also used to fast. At the same time, fasting is also found among the Greeks. From Hazrat Adam Alaihissalam to Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam, the existence of fasting in some way or the other is seen in every community.
Ramadan The order of fasting has been in place since the second Hijri period i.e. Islamic calendar. In the second verse of the Quran, ‘Surah Al-Baqarah’, it is clearly said that fasting is obligatory on you in the same way as it was obligatory on the Ummah before you. The order to observe Roza came one year after Prophet Muhammad Sahib reached Medina after Hijrat (migration) from Mecca. In the second verse of the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah said, “Fasting is made obligatory on you in the same way as it was made obligatory on the community before you.”

In a Hadith, the Messenger of Allah Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “If a person comes to know what Ramadan is and how great is the virtue of Ramadan, then undoubtedly he will wish that Ramadan continues for years and years.”
Ramzan and Jang-e-Badr
Roza (Saum) in Islam became mandatory for Muslims in 624 CE (2nd year of Hijri or 2 AH). Although Roza was a custom before Islam. But the special month-long fast of Ramadan was established for all Muslims when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) moved from Mecca to Medina. If seen in such a situation, fasting of Ramadan has been made mandatory in Islam since 2 Hijri. The first war of Islam was fought on the 17th of Ramadan i.e. on 13 March 624. This war was the biggest war of Muslims between Islam and the enemies of Islam on 17 Ramadan, which is known as Jang-e-Badr. In this battle the number of Muslims was 313 and the number of enemies was 1000. Muslims arrived unarmed in this war, while the enemies had shining swords. This first war fought on behalf of Prophet Muhammad was to save Islam. This was a war against evil which took place in Badr, a place located about 200 km away from Mahila city of Saudi Arabia.

This was the period when Prophet Muhammad used to tell the orders of Allah to the people and asked them to worship only one Allah. For this reason, the people of Mecca became enemies of his life and ultimately Muhammad Sahib had to migrate from Mecca to Medina. During this time, Prophet Muhammad Sahib had a few Janissar companions and used to perform Ibadat-e-Ilahi, offer Namaz and fast after the fasting became obligatory. Prophet Saheb and his 313 followers also fought the war by fasting. That day was the 17th Roza. After the victory of Battle of Badr, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with joy, after which the custom of fasting in Ramzan and celebrating Eid every year started.
