Ramzan Fasting Rules: The month of Ramadan is considered very holy and special in the religion of Islam. This month is a symbol of worship, restraint, sacrifice and self-purification. During this time, people of the Muslim community worship Allah and keep fast for the entire month. Fasting is not just about staying hungry and thirsty, but it is also a time to improve one’s thoughts, behavior and lifestyle. In such a situation, it is very important to know the important rules related to fasting before the start of Ramadan.
When will Ramzan start in India?
According to the Islamic calendar, the beginning of Ramadan depends on the sighting of the moon. If the moon is sighted on the evening of 18 February 2026, then the first Roza in India will be observed on 19 February 2026.
What to do during fasting?
Ramadan is not just about being hungry and thirsty, but it is also considered a month of discipline, hence it is very important to take care of some special things during this time.
Niyat and Namaz: Before fasting, make a true intention in your mind. Offer Namaz five times a day strictly and participate in Taraweeh i.e. special Namaz held during this period.
Recitation of Quran: Reading the Quran in this month is considered a very rewarding and virtuous act.
Sehri and Iftar: Be sure to do Sehri before sunrise, because it brings blessings. Have Iftar with dates or water at the right time after sunset.
Zakat and Khairaat: Donate some part of your earnings to the poor and needy i.e. Zakat. Donations made in this month yield manifold rewards.
Controlling anger: Always speak the truth, be kind to others and maintain patience.
What not to do during fasting?
According to Islamic belief, not abstaining from these activities can spoil or break the fast.
Avoidance of eating and drinking: Consciously eating or drinking anything is prohibited from morning till sunset.
Evil and backbiting: While fasting, it is strictly prohibited to speak ill of anyone, lie or use abusive language.
Addiction and bad habits: During these holy days, completely stay away from cigarettes, tobacco or any kind of intoxication.
Control your anger: The fasting person should avoid quarrels. Even if someone provokes you, you should remain calm and say, I am fasting.
