Story of Rama Ekadashi fast
Once upon a time there lived a king named Muchukund in a kingdom. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. They had a daughter named Chandrabhaga. In time, King Muchukund got her married to Shobhan, son of King Chandrasen. In the kingdom of King Muchukund, everyone used to observe Ekadashi fast with strict rules.

Once when Shobhan came to his in-laws’ house, it was Rama Ekadashi of Kartik month. Despite not wanting, Shobhan had to observe the fast on Rama Ekadashi. Shobhan died due to hunger and thirst. Seeing this, King Muchukund and Chandrabhaga felt very sad. The king threw Shobhan’s body into the river.
Due to the effect of Rama Ekadashi fast, Lord Vishnu took Shobhan out of the water and gave him a glorious kingdom on Mandarachal mountain. Shobhan started living happily in that city. One day a Brahmin named Somsharma came there, he knew Shobhan. Shobhan told the whole story to that Brahmin truthfully.
Shobhan also said, ‘This city is unstable.’ When the Brahmin asked the reason for this, Shobhan told, ‘I had observed the fast of Rama Ekadashi out of compulsion and without faith. So I’ve got this unstable state. Only my wife Chandrabhaga can make this kingdom stable. So you go and tell him the whole thing.
Somasharma Brahmin came and told the whole story to Chandrabhaga. Then Chandrabhaga took her to the ashram of sage Vamdev situated near that town of Madaranchal mountain. Where the sage anointed Chandrabhaga with mantras, due to which her body became divine and she went near her husband. Shobhan placed his wife on the throne.
Shobhan told Chandrabhaga the whole truth about how he became the king of this kingdom. With the effect of his Ekadashi fast, Chandrabhaga stabilized the unstable city and said, ‘This city will remain like this till the doomsday comes.’ In this way, Shobhan and Chandrabhaga started living happily in that city in their divine form.
