Mythology of Rama Ekadashi
According to the Puranas, in Tretayuga there was a king named Muchukunda, who was devout and a devotee of Vishnu. Everyone was happy in his kingdom. The king had a very beautiful and devoted wife, whose name was Chandrabhaga. In the king’s palace lived his son Shankha, who unfortunately indulged in bad deeds. One day, Shankha indulged in pleasures and ate food on the day of Ekadashi. Seeing this, Chandrabhaga became very sad. He explained to his son that the fast of Ekadashi is very sacred and should not be disrespected.
But the son did not listen to him and died the same night. His soul went to hell. Then Chandrabhaga worshiped Lord Vishnu, observed a fast on Rama Ekadashi and prayed to God that his son get salvation. Lord Vishnu was pleased with his devotion and said, O Sati! Due to the effect of your fast, your son will get salvation. After this, Shankha attained salvation and went to Vishnuloka. Since then it is believed that Rama Ekadashi The fast destroys sins and gives liberation.
