Rajpal Yadav’s bail denied: ‘You went to jail for breaking promises,’ HC roars

New Delhi: Rajpal Yadav’s jail stint drags on. The comedy king of Bollywood, known for laughs in films like Hungama, now faces a grim reality in Tihar Jail over a bounced cheque mess.

Delhi High Court slammed him today for breaking promises, adjourning his bail plea to Monday. Will stars like Salman Khan and Sonu Sood bail him out? Stay tuned as the actor’s financial woes unfold.

Court slams actor’s promises

Delhi High Court on Thursday refused immediate bail to actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case, noting he is in Tihar Jail for failing to honour commitments. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma remarked sharply at the start of proceedings, “You have gone to jail because you didn’t honour your own commitment.” The court highlighted that Rajpal had promised on at least two dozen occasions to repay the money but did not follow through.

Hearing details and adjournment

Rajpal’s counsel had assured the court earlier that they would deposit the owed amount on Thursday, leading to a rehearing at 2:30 PM. When asked about the money, the counsel replied, “I tried contacting him, but wasn’t able to. I have filed a bail application.” The lawyer further suggested, “The case may be adjourned to Monday, and I will come up with something by then.” Justice Sharma directed the complainant to file a reply to the bail application and adjourned the matter to Monday, stating, “You (complainant) need to file a reply. When I was going through the file, there were so many things we didn’t even know. They have challenged the first order before the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court didn’t give them any relief. Anyways, we will have it on Monday.”

 Background of cheque bounce case

The trouble began in 2010 when Rajpal borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his 2012 directorial film Ata Pata Laapata, which flopped at the box office. This left him in financial distress, and several cheques he issued bounced, leading to action under the Negotiable Instruments Act. He now owes Rs 2 crore to the financier.

 Bollywood stars offer support

Since his arrest, several Bollywood celebrities have rallied behind Rajpal. His manager revealed to the press that stars like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have offered financial help. Sonu Sood was among the first to publicly support the actor.
