Who is Ujjwal Nikam?

Born on March 30, 1953, in Jalgaon, Ujjwal Nikam is one of India’s most renowned public prosecutors, known for handling several landmark criminal cases. After earning a science degree and studying law at SS Maniyar Law College, he built a distinguished legal career that brought him national recognition.

Nikam played a key role in securing convictions in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks trial, where Ajmal Kasab was sentenced to death. He has also served as special public prosecutor in high-profile cases including the Shakti Mills gangrape case, the Kopardi rape and murder case, the Ahmednagar rape and murder case, the 1991 Kalyan bombing case, and the murder case of music mogul Gulshan Kumar.

Nikam’s contributions to the Indian justice system earned him Z-plus security protection and the prestigious Padma Shri in 2016.
